Korean-American TV soap star Daniel Henney, who shot to stardom here in the hit summer show “My Name is Kim Sam-soon,” has finally made it where it really matters, in his hometown of Carson City, Michigan. As proof, look no further than the local paper, the Daily News, which recently chronicled the voyage of Henney’s mother to visit her celebrity son in the country of her birth.

Kim Seon Ah Casted as Kim Sam Soon

Kim Sun Ah (김선아) and Hyun Bin (현빈) will lead the Wednesday-Thursday drama “My Name is Kim Sam Soon (내이름은 김삼순)” scheduled to be aired by MBC in May. Kim Sun Ah plays 29-year-old Kim Sam Soon and Hyun Bin plays 27-year-old Hyun Jin Hun (현진헌) who is a young entrepreneur. The script writer is Kim Do Woo (김도우) whose previous works is “Snowman”. KSA is selected because she matches the cheerful personality of Kim Sam Soon. This is her comeback to TV drama since her last drama “Golden Time” aired in 2001. Her new movie “Stakeout (잠복근무)” will be debuted on 3/17.

Heartthrob’s mom is mobbed during trip to South Korea

A somber crowd at Tom Ford’s ready-to-wear fall 2005 Gucci collection in South Korea erupted into cheers as 25-year-old Daniel Henney strode into the spotlight in a tight fitting, all-black outfit earlier this month.

The JoongAng Daily newspaper called it “a rare moment at Korean fashion shows.” According to the newspaper, “The appearance of Mr. Henney, the Eurasian model turned actor who stars in a Korean drama and many advertisements, was the highlight of the evening, even at the dance party led by a New York-based DJ, Ilya.

“Women gushed and sighed all night as they peered — again and again — into their digital cameras and mobile phones that captured the distant image of Daniel Henney in three impossibly sexy Gucci suits.”

The Korea TV drama hit “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon (aka My Lovely Sam Soon)” is giving rise to a highly contagious condition identified as Sam-soon Syndrome that can empty entire streets of all signs of life and plunge sufferers into a topsy-turvy world where plain is beautiful and assertiveness does not put a woman beyond the pale. The show, which hit the airwaves on June 1, recorded nationwide viewer ratings of 30.5 percent (TNS Media Korea) in just four episodes. But on June 30, the program’s 10th episode recorded national viewer ratings of a staggering 41.7 percent.
